A Timeline of the History of the First Congregational Church of Lebanon

1700 Nine men formed the original membership of the First Congregational Church of Lebanon. The first Meeting House was in a small barn.
1722 – 1731 “The Meeting House War.” The North Society and the South Society debated over the location. The General Assembly decided that the new Meeting House should stand on the original site.
1804 A brick Meeting House was built according to the design made by John Trumbull.
1875 A modernization project began to provide for a vestry in addition to a sanctuary.
September 1938 A hurricane hit Lebanon, CT full force destroying the steeple and walls and leaving only the front facade intact.
1954 Restoration of the church, to the specifications of John Trumbull, was completed.
1958 The Fellowship House was added.
Our church is fortunate enough to have a Seth Thomas Clock on our steeple!
