You may have heard it said, “Sometimes the best thing comes from the worst thing.” I am not sure that applies in every case, but it certainly does with our Easter experience. I know that there are people in our congregation and community who are going through some pretty bad things right now. You may have also heard that “Laughter is the best medicine.” I think laughter is pretty good, but I’d keep taking the other medications and supplement with humor. Maybe, laughter is the best vitamin.
This Sunday we will be celebrating “HOLY HUMOR SUNDAY!!!” On Easter Sunday, with the Resurrection- God gets the last laugh over the devil. Our entire worship service will be a witness to humor and joy. There are plenty of Sunday services for pensive, deeply reflective, liturgically moving, profound prayers and fire and brimstone sermons. This will not be one of those. There is a time for laughter, joy and celebration. The Sunday after Easter is that time.
While there is no choir this Sunday- there will be joyous music.
Attend. Invite a friend. Bring your joy and even your concerns.
I am still looking for people who might like to tell a story, joke, read a poem, sing a song, act out a skit- do something that brings joy to our worship! Because I believe the Holy Spirit works in mysterious ways- we can wait right up until the worship service, and if the Spirit so moves- just get up in the middle of the service and share!
ALSO happening this Sunday after worship- (after fueling up on coffee and snacks) the Environmental Justice Committee wants you to take a hike. Actually they are inviting you to walk the green with Naturalist Juan Sanchez. Put on your sneakers, and learn about the natural aspects of our town green that make it so special.
Happy Easter to you all! See you on Sunday.
Rev. Will
Just how historically reliable are the Gospels and Acts if even prominent conservative Bible scholars believe that fictional accounts may exist in these books? I have put together a list of statements from scholars and historians such as Richard Bauckham, William Lane Craig, Michael Licona, Craig Blomberg, and NT Wright on this issue:
