Life happens in the moments. Life happens in real time. Life changes dramatically in only a moment. The life of George Floyd changed in a matter of moments that lasted 8:46. Four police officers lives changed in those moments. Those moments didn’t happen in a vacuum. There were so many missed opportunities in those moments. If one officer stood up, it might have given another the strength to stand up- and the trajectory of events may have shifted.
Perhaps your life has changed in a moment.
A diagnosis, the death of a loved one, the dissolution of a relationship—it can happen in a moment- and life changes.
You take your eyes off the road for a second…
You give up on that diet, stop working out, you take a drink for the first time in years…
You quit school or accept the promotion…
You say “yes” to an unethical or immoral moment…
Life changes with a decision, or in an instant, in a moment.
In Chapter 13 of Matthew’s gospel, Jesus chastises the people because they missed their moment. “John came. He looked, spoke and acted like a prophet—but people ignored him. Jesus says, ‘I look different. I eat with sinners and drink wine—and you called me a glutton and a drunk.’” One translation says, “Wisdom will be vindicated by her actions, not by your opinions.” Jesus goes on, “Watch out for those claiming to be wise. Don’t listen so much to the learned.”
I spent a little time watching CNN and Fox- and I will not claim to be wise or learned, but this I observed: there is very little news, and a whole lot of opinion! When you go to their websites and scroll through- you will see the words: Opinion and Analysis.
The Bible says, “Wisdom will be vindicated by her actions, not by your opinions.”
I’m paraphrasing Jesus here: “Your opinion doesn’t matter—your actions do.”
Actions: that is where the rubber meets the road! Can we be Christians without actions? Loving God and loving our neighbor is a verb—not an idea, opinion, or photo op!
This is your moment time! This is your time!
