What does Psalm 111 mean for us today? The last verse sums it up best.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have good understanding. God’s praise endures forever.”
Fear of the Lord- doesn’t mean, “be afraid.” it means we would be awestruck. If we are in AWE of God, then we begin to truly understand the world. Everyone who truly is in awe of God will have good understanding.
God made a covenant with God’s people, and God will not abandon that covenant.
The covenant is simple, “I will be your God, and you will be my people.”
That covenant is renewed each day. It has been for thousands of years.
Jesus came 2000 years ago and let us know that God has once again renewed the covenant. He gave us a symbolic meal that would represent the new covenant- a living covenant.
When we gather for worship – we come with a sense of urgency for today- but we come with an awareness that this is part of an incredible historical landscape.
Let us go to worship praising God for our heritage and the opportunity that we have to continue to learn wisdom from God’s ways.
We should be doing what God’s people do—praising God! Giving praise runs through the Psalm read for you this morning.
But also, Paul urges the Colossians:
“Whatever you do…do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (3:17).
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise God all creatures here below.
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
